During this lockdown period you may see your Netflix watchlist growing and growing – making it harder for you to pick what to binge watch next. With this in mind, we have conducted some research and picked our top 6 recommendations on what we think you should be watching during your self-isolation period. Here are the top-tier shows that made the cut:
1) Stranger Things
If you haven’t already heard of ‘Stranger Things’ – then you have most likely been living under a rock for the past few years. This thrilling Netflix original follows a small group of young adults in a small Indiana town in 1983 – inspired by a time when tales of science fiction captivated audiences. When one of the protagonists go missing, mysterious supernatural secrets are revealed. This series does contain some jumpy/scary scenes, so those who aren’t a fan of the supernatural may want to give this one a miss.
2) Homeland
‘Homeland’ is an American spy thriller television series based on the Israeli series ‘Prisoners of War’. The series is based around a CIA officer with Bipolar Disorder, who comes to believe that one of her colleagues (who was held captive by al-Qaeda as a prisoner of war) has been ‘turned’ by the enemy and poses as a threat to the United States. This series has 8 seasons – so is perfect for a good old-fashioned binge!
3) The Haunting of Hill House
If you’re into the genre of horror – then ‘The Haunting of Hill House’ is perfect for you! This is an American anthology supernatural horror drama created by director Mike Flanagan for Netflix. The plot alternates between two timelines, following five adult siblings who paranormal experiences at their old house continue to haunt them in the present day. See if you can spot all the hidden ghosts in the background!
4) It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia
If you’re looking for a watch which is a little more light-hearted, then we recommend comedy ‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’. This show takes having a ‘dry sense of humour’ to the next level, as it follows a group of Irish bar owners on their antics around Philadelphia. There is no unity among them as they constantly keep plotting against each other in different ways!
5) The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina
I’m sure you’ve already heard of or seen the old school version of Sabrina the Teenage Witch – but this remake is a little darker than the original light-hearted comedy. Delving deeper into the mysteries of witchcraft and the occult, this series portrays a dark coming-of-age story where Sabrina wrestles to reconcile her dual nature – half witch, half-mortal!
6) Tiger King
If you are looking for something a little out of the ordinary – then ‘Tiger King’ is your best option! You’ve probably seen one of the many memes that is sweeping social media during this lockdown period, so why not see what all the hype is about? ‘Tiger King’ is an exploration of big cat breeding and it’s bizarre underworld, populated by a series of eccentric characters.
